How Many Calories Are There in a Laddu & Does It Have Any Health Benefits?

Laddus are one of the most common traditional Indian sweets made of chickpea flour, ghee, sugar, and cardamom. Besan laddus have a good balance of carbs, protein, and fat. Besan is roasted in ghee, flavored with raisins, sugar, cardamom and then shaped into tight round balls. Laddus are garnished with Pistachios and Almonds.

Boondi Laddu is another Indian recipe, a delicious and popular sweet made from Besan (gram flour batter). The batter is poured through a perforated sieve while frying that produces round shaped droplets which are known as Boondi. Depending upon the consistency of sugar syrup, Boondi laddus have soft texture or crisp and hard one.

Gram flour or Besan is a highly nutritious ingredient which has plenty of health benefits. It has a good amount of protein content which can be helpful in contributing to the protein requirements of vegetarians. Besan is a favorite ingredient for Indian homemade healthy snacks and sweets. Besan has lesser calories than whole wheat flour. It is nutritionally dense and hence it promotes weight loss as it contains lower levels of fat as compared to their non-vegetarian protein counterparts. It has high amount of minerals such as iron, potassium, manganese, copper, zinc, phosphorus, magnesium as well as vitamin B-6 and thiamine. Besan contains healthy unsaturated fats which help to lower the cholesterol level. Due to its low glycemic index, Laddus made from Besan is safe for diabetics. It also has high amount of soluble fiber and folates. Besan is gluten-free food and hence it is a great substitute for wheat and other gluten containing grains.
