Thepla is a traditional Indian food which has high nutritional value. Thepla is a staple food of Gujarat. It is cooked using various flours and combinations of different spices as well as flavour. It is mainly made of wheat flour or rice flour or multigrain flour with Turmeric, Red chilly powder, fenugreek leaves, salt and other common Indian spices. Theplas are quite healthy and keeps you feeling full & at the same time is a good source of energy. Thepla is low in calories and contains saturated fats.  It is easy and convenient to carry Theplas along with you when you are traveling or at the workplace.

Theplas can be a source of vitamins, fibre and mineral. Wheat flour is the chief ingredient in Thepla which contains vitamin B-complex and fibre. Vitamin B complex promotes healthy skin, hair, eyes, liver and nerves.

The nutritional value of Thepla depends on the ingredients you add into it.  You can opt for a variety of vegetables like bottle gourd, bitter gourd, carrots and spinach which will further enhance its vitamins and minerals content. A typical recipe of Thepla includes fenugreek leaves which are rich in minerals such as calcium and magnesium. Calcium helps in promoting strong teeth and bones whereas magnesium has anti-ageing properties. As Wheat may not have sufficient amount of protein, you can add curd or soya flour or Ragi flour to enhance the protein content. Oats or Barley can be added to enhance the fibre content. A fibre-rich diet can prevent heart diseases, diabetes, weight gain and stomach ailments.  Theplas are snacks available at most of the sweet shops as well now a days in India.
