Hello Fitsaurus,
I want to begin by thanking you for providing such a platform for Indian Fitness and above all the endeavour of your team to motivate people to achieve something that really means in a long run i.e. good health.
To learn the meaning of good health it took me a great deal of hard work, patience, consistency and management. Being born in a typical punjabi family, rich food was inherited as a lifestyle. Present day punjabis like me are not into manual work or farming as our elders used to be in their youth but we are still following the old diet. For example till today, my family can’t imagine breakfast without parathas & butter, followed by heavy dinner accompanied by rounds of whisky. The meaning of good health has been literally forgotten.
Turning Point:
Due to this lifestyle, I reached 106 kgs. As a result of this, I was unable to walk 1 km without a break, forget to think jogging. Shopping new clothes literally became a nightmare as XXXL is not available at every shop. There were instances when the salesman simply said NO before me asking for the size available.
So one day, I gave it a serious thought. Planned my schedule, motivated myself and prayed to God.
Workout program:
I started doing light workouts daily, lasting upto 30 mins. It lasted for 5 months then after getting the stamina to sustain, I bought a MTB cycle without gears and started cycling 11 km and gradually enhanced upto 50 kms in a single go. After this, the zeal for having a lean body was also attained and i was clamouring to give myself a tough competition. Now my motto was to check my ability and willpower to resist eating mom’s paranthas and wife’s chicken preparations. Thereafter i started running in morning. Initially upto 5 kms, now successfully completing 10 kms non-stop. As my weight came down, appreciation and confidence increased. Food habits were re-drawn and lifestyle was overhauled.
Diet:
Now breakfast consists of boiled eggs, muesli, poha, dalia etc. Lunch and dinner are also modified, keeping in view the requirements and performance of body. As a result today I have achieved 74 kg weight and wearing Medium size of clothes.
Inspire your tribe:
I have realized that you can achieve anything in life if you stay persistent and true to your goals. At the end, I thank God, my family and peer group for keeping me motivated by their continously support. I want to share the true spirit of being a punjabi through the following poetry:
Nahin tera nasheman qasr-e-sultani kay gumbad pe,
Tu shaheen hai basera kar paharron hi chattanon per!
(Your abode is not on the dome of a royal palace,
For you are an eagle, destined to live on the hard rocks of mountains)
Keep going and stay strong!
