Puran Poli is a popular and traditional Indian recipe of Maharashtrian cuisine. Puran Poli is served with a tangy spicy dal which is known as Katachi Amti. Puran Poli is a sweet, flatbread which is prepared with refined flour, cooked yellow gram, Ghee, Jaggery, Cardamom, Saffron, and Nutmeg. You can skip the refined flour and prepare Puran Poli with whole wheat flour. It is far easier to roll the wheat dough since the wheat dough is less elastic and you can easily make thin bread. The circular shaped Puran Poli is a pan-griddled sweet bread stuffed with Chana dal or Toor/ Arhar dal and hence it is bound to be high in calorie. You can prepare a healthier version of Puran Poli by using whole wheat flour instead of maida and adding ghee sparingly. Also, consume it in moderate quantity.
