How Many Calories Are There in a Rasmalai & Does It Have Any Health Benefits?
Rasmalai is an Indian recipe of Bengali cuisine. It is prepared with powdered milk and flour, molded into balls and served with sugar and creamy milk. The Round balls of powdered milk and flour are dipped in heavy sugar syrup. Ras literally translates to “juice” and malai is “cream”. balls of Chena or Indian cottage cheese balls are cooked in sugar syrup and soaked in thick, sweetened, condensed milk which has a creamy consistency. These juicy flattened balls are garnished with nuts.
Rasmalai is a milk based dessert which is a rich extremely soft, spongy and tasty. The yellow or white colored Rasmalai is served chilled. It is garnished with pistachios, almonds, saffron and other dry fruits. A little amount of cardamom powder is also sprinkled to enhance the fragrance and taste. Diabetic people can consume Rasmalai which has low sugar content without compromising with its taste.
Rasmalai has a lot of proteins since it contains high quantity of milk. Every ingredient of Rasmalai has several health benefits. Saffron is beneficial in curbing cancer cell growth by penetrating into the cancer cells and sending them a signal for apoptosis (a type of cell death) which drives the cancer cells to kill themselves. Dry fruits such as Almonds and Pistachios are a good source of antioxidants. This dessert has quite a high calorie and fat content but is considered to be healthier in comparison to some other sweets because it is not deep-fried.
