What made you take up fitness seriously?
I have been obese during all my teenage years. I was deeply involved into my academics and didn’t take part in any physical activity at all whatsoever. Plus I was consuming all the junk food in the world. I tried joining a gym, take up some form of activity later in my high school, but could never succeed and continue.
During my college days, I was taunted for my weight. I took it up as a challenge and started working out at home every day for a year. I lost 10 kilos and that motivated me to continue and join a gym.
What keeps you motivated?
Now I look at fitness as a lifestyle. It isn’t a weight-loss tool for me anymore. I feel good and confident from inside. And when I look at International athletes, they inspire me a lot. I want to do at least some of the things that they do on a regular basis. That keeps me motivated.
What are the hurdles you faced on course to achieving your fitness goals?
The first and foremost hurdle is consistency and discipline. Earlier I couldn’t continue going to a gym for long because I would become lazy. Now I realize, it’s solely discipline and consistency that keeps you going. Body achieves what the mind wants to achieve. Bringing that focus is an everyday task.
Who are your role models / Whom do you look up to?
I look upto a lot of International athletes. Jamie Eason Middleton is one of them. I have had the great opportunity to interact with her a few times, and she is one motivating lady.
What is your current workout program / What was your workout program while training for your fitness goal?
Currently, I train 5-6 days a week.
Day 1 is Leg day and abs
Day 2 is Shoulders and cardio
Day 3 is Chest, tricep and abs
Day 4 is Cardio (HIIT)
Day 5 is Back and abs
Day 6 (optional) is light cardio
What diet did you follow while training?
For a while initially, I just stopped eating outside food and it helped me a lot. When I started understanding fitness, I was on a keto diet for a while. But now, I maintain a high protein, low carb diet regularly.
What is your favourite workout and your favourite body part to exercise?
My favourite workout is Deadlifts. It engages almost the entire body and I just love them.
My favourite body part to train are Legs and back.
What is your favourite food?
Well all the junk in the world. Hahahaha. Specially desserts. But I have to maintain a balance.
What is your cheat meal?
I have a sweet tooth. So generally my cheat meals are some desserts for sure.
What supplements have you used and which ones do you find the best?
I don’t use supplements.
What are your favourite workout songs?
I’m sexy and I know it by LMFAO
On the floor by JLo
What are your long term plans in terms of fitness?
I just want to be stronger and fitter. I don’t look at abs as a criteria of fitness anymore. I want to be able to perform the toughest workouts.
What are some diet and workout tips you would like to give our readers?
DISCIPLINE: this one word has all the answers. We are humans and it is very normal for us to miss a workout or crave certain food. But we must keep our eye on the long term goal that we want to achieve.
What is one fitness advice you would like to give every beginner?
Just keep pushing yourself. What you find hard today, will be easy to you tomorrow. Just don’t give up.
