Turning point:
Being obese since childhood was embarrassing; it was very difficult for me to stay confident during my school days. I always had a sense of inferiority complex in me, getting bullied had become part of my life not only among my friends, teachers relatives also used to bully me because of my weight,
“Konsi chakki ka aata khata hai”
“mote ek din phatt jayega”
“Dharti pe bojh”
Above were the common phrases I used to get every day. I took fitness on a serious note when at a time I was sick having high fever I went to see a doctor he said“you have two disease one is temporary i.e fever the other one is your obesity.” This was the time that I decided that I have to do something now to get rid of my obesity.
Hurdles faced:
No fitness journey is smooth; every one sees failures and hurdles. Being a small town guy I faced many problems regarding fitness knowledge as I never hired any personal trainer. Local Trainers here are only to make only by selling fake supplements and magic pills to lose weight which never works. Internet and YouTube was my only support. Inspite running a business it wasn’t easy for me to make time every single day for workout but I made it happen and I stuck to the gym no matter what. And in early 2016 with a good balanced diet and workout I lost 20kg in a year.
Driving force:
I got inspired by seeing transformation stories of laymen like me on internet, Facebook and fitness sites like Fitsaurus. YouTube helped me a lot to achieve my goal. Youtubers like Jeet Selal, Guru Mann and Gaurav Taneja are providing best information regarding each and everything about fitness I am really thankful to them, they provide honest advices which really worked for me.
Workout program:
Initially to lose weight I followed the common myth which is hitting cardio more and gave less attention to strength training. But later I realized that strength training burns more fat than cardio. Hitting cardio only will not help in fat loss, being in calorie deficit, eating right and strength training is the key. Currently I focus more on compound lifting like squats, deadlifts, bench press, military press.
Diet followed:
In order to lose fat and build muscle I mainly rely on egg whites and chicken breasts as these have good nutritional values with lean protein in it. Keeping carbs and fat intake in moderate I went for high protein diet. I cook my meals by myself, every fitness enthusiast should cook by themselves and this helps to track the amounts of macros on your plate.
Supplements:
I introduced whey in my diet quite later, whey is the only way to get instant recovery after smashing your workout in the gym, whey is the fastest digesting protein and you need them right after your workout. I never took any fat loss pills or any other fancy supplements. Just a scoop of whey isolate as a post workout shake with water.
Inspire your tribe:
My advice to the people who wish to lose weight is that it is not going to happen overnight and it is actually a slow process and 100% possible. You just have to be patient and consistent. You cannot achieve your goals without consistency. It is said that diet is 80% and workout is 20% but I believe that it is both 100%. You have to give your 100% to your nutrition and 100% to towards your workout. Give attention to weight training more, do cardio for 20 minutes after your strength training. I have seen people start in the gym by treadmill, they lose their energy on that and later have to energy left for weight training. Do more of compound lifting. Prepare your own meals. Stay hydrated always drink water, at least 4 litres every day. Be consistent. Miracles happen.
