How Many Calories Are There in a Fafda & Does It Have Any Health Benefits?
Fafda is a delicious and crunchy Indian food from the Gujarati cuisine. It is prepared with gram flour, turmeric, baking soda and carom seeds. The deep fried and crisp snack is served with Coriander-Mint sauce and raw papaya salad. A plate of fafda along with a cup of coffee or tea can be your perfect evening snack. Fafda is a quick and convenient snacking option that can be consumed with other dry snacks like puffed rice and flat rice.
The main ingredient of Fafda is Gram flour or Besan which is beneficial for your gut health. Gram flour or Besan is made by milling chickpeas, a type of legume. It may be either coarsely ground or finely ground. It is pale yellow in color and a staple of Indian food which is used to prepare dumplings, fritters, noodles, and for thickening the curries. It contains Amylase starch, a slowly digested starch which helps you to feel full for a longer period of time. One cup of Besan contains several vital minerals such as calcium, magnesium, potassium, zinc, iron, phosphorus, manganese, selenium and copper. Despite not being a rich source of most vitamins, Besan does contain vitamin A, vitamin K, pantothenic acid, niacin, and folate. Besan is gluten free and hence people suffering from celiac disease or gluten intolerance can consume Besan as a substitute for Wheat, Rye, and Barley. A single Besan-based meal may cause reductions in blood sugar and insulin concentrations, compared to a wheat meal. Besan flour may cause a significant decrease in total cholesterol compared to wheat flour.
